Located in Fairfield, Connecticut, the Acme United Corporation started out as a partnership in 1867, and subsequently, incorporated in 1882. Initially, the company was known as the Rentz Shear Shop, manufactured scissors and cast iron shears. In 1882, the company moved to Bridgeport, Connecticut and incorporated under the company name of The Acme Shear Company. By 1946, Acme was the world's largest maker of scissors and shears.
Over the years, the company expanded through acquisitions to become a worldwide entity with offices in the U.S., Canada, Europe, and Asia.
