Located in Fairfield, Connecticut, the Acme United Corporation started out as a partnership in 1867, and subsequently, incorporated in 1882. Initially, the company was known as the Rentz Shear Shop, manufactured scissors and cast iron shears. In 1882, the company moved to Bridgeport, Connecticut and incorporated under the company name of The Acme Shear Company. By 1946, Acme was the world's largest maker of scissors and shears. Over the years, the company expanded through acquisitions to become a worldwide entity with offices in the U.S., Canada, Europe, and Asia. Currently, Acme has 5 core brands that they own: Westcott - Manufacturers scissors and rulers. Wescott is Acme's strongest brand selling 60 to 80 pairs of scissors each year worldwide. Clauss - A German based company that specializes in professional commercial cutting instruments such as chef knives and shears, hobby knives, etc. PhysiciansCare - This brand specializes in first aid and healthcare instruments. Pac-Kit - Another healthcare brand that offers residential and commercial first aid kits, industrial strength wash stations, and emergency medical travel gear. Camillus - This brand is one of the oldest and most well known brands in the commercial knife industry. This line is sold at sporting goods shops and sporting catalog retailers across the world.
