Photo Paper

Ever since photo paper (which is an abbreviated name for photographic paper) was introduced to the market for printers, there has been some confusion as to exactly what constituted photo paper. With so many choices and slightly different names, choosing the photo paper that is right for your needs can be a daunting task.

For the most part, there are  4 main types or styles of photo paper (or visit this link for technical specs on this paper: link) 

#1 - Bonded Photo Paper - This type of paper may go by many names including photo quality paper, photo ready paper, etc. This style of paper is generally sold in a ream of 500 sheets, and isn't a true photo paper. 

#2 - Matte Photo Paper - Commonly called Matte or Matt paper, this style consists of a high quality bond paper with a matte coating that accepts ink.  Matte papers are best suited for economical printing of images, graphics, charts, and presentations.

#3 - Gloss or Semi-Gloss Photo Paper - This style of paper is the most common and most popular in the industry. Cast coating refers to the glossy or semi-glossy coating on the paper, that is typically only found on one side of the paper. 

#4 - Photo Microporous Paper - A mouthful to say, this style of paper is commonly considered one of the highest quality of commercially produced photo paper. Microporous paper uses a high quality coating over a high end base paper that is pre-coated with a polypropylene resin on both sides.
