The term "card stock" is used to describe a type of paper stock that is slightly thicker and more durable that typical writing or printing paper. This type of paper is also commonly called cover stock or pasteboard paper.
The thickness of card stock is gauged through a measurement called points or mils. This measurement gives the thickness of the stock in thousandths of an inch. Using that measurement method, a 12 point (pt.) card stock paper would be .012 inches thick.
Card stock paper is most often used for business cards (it's primary use), postcards, scrapbooking, arts & crafts, and playing cards. This type of paper is ideal for situations that require a slightly thicker and more durable paper when compared to standard copy paper, yet not thick enough to warrant the use of a more rigid paper like posterboard paper.
Business Supply features over 50 different styles and colors of card stock in a number of popular thicknesses.
