If you own a laptop or notebook computer, there's probably going to come a time when you have to transport it somewhere for something. With this in mind, it's very important to use a computer case to protect the computer from damage or loss. Let's face it, some people have their entire lives on a computer so losing one to damage or theft hurts.

Things to look for when shopping for a computer case:

Laptop size - Both laptops and notebooks are generally measured by their screen width (14 inches, 15, inches, 17 inches, etc.). It's very important to know this measurement and purchase a case that specifically fits that size. For example, a 17" laptop needs a case that will accept a 17" screen. You can buy a case that fits a screen size larger than the one you have as most manufacturers feature spacers that will ensure a the smaller laptop will fit in a larger case.

Case material - These days, computer cases are available in various materials including leather, nylon, artificial leather, and neoprene (the same material used in wetsuits). Any of those materials will work fine, but keep in mind that factors like cost and weight can be impacted by the material. For example, a real leather computer case will cost more and weight more than one made from nylon.

Protective padding - This inner padding is extremely important to provide the appropriate level of protection and impact resistance for the computer. Good padding will protect the computer from bumps, knocks, and low level falls. Even in a fall from a higher elevation, a well padded case will help reduce the potential damage.
